Stromness Primary School has been short-listed for the SCALA Civil Building of the Year Award 2014.

Three of the 12 shortlisted buildings are in Scotland and there have been just three previous Scottish winners since the competition began in 2003.

The UK-wide competition is solely dedicated to the public sector and recognises contributions made by the client, architect and the builder.

The objective of the competition is to promote the construction of high-quality public buildings and formally honour excellence in design and construction.

The school was part of Orkney Islands Council’s £57m Schools Investment Programme which has also delivered a new theatre, a new Kirkwall Grammar School, a new halls of residence for isles pupils and a new six-lane swimming pool at the Picky Centre.
