Double delight for Orkney FC: Progression in the Jock Mackay Cup and Invergordon beaten
Orkney FC progressed to the quarter-finals of the Jock Mackay Cup this afternoon, beating Shetland 2-1 in the first-ever meeting between the sides.
It was double delight for Orkney as news filtered through that Halkirk had beaten Invergordon in the league, meaning that Orkney, with a game in hand over the league leaders, now have the opportunity to go level on points at the summit of the North Caledonian League.
However, at a damp Dounby, strikes from Kyle Drever and captain DJ Moffat secured victory for the home side in what was a scrappy encounter.
Shetland hit back with a late strike through substitute Bobby Scott, who’s long-range strike deceived ‘keeper Cameron McConnachie. Despite the visitors pushing for a late equaliser, Orkney saw the game out comfortably for a deserved victory.
