The restoration of a listed house on Egilsay has been recognised in the annual awards scheme run by the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland.

The house at Howan was restored from a derelict shell as a holiday home and was given a Commendation in the Special Category Award – Conservation and Climate Change.
Design work was carried out by Edinburgh architects, Simpson and Brown, with Rachel Mayhew, supported locally by Leslie Burgher.
The work was carried out by local firms, R. Clouston and R. S. Rendall, with traditional lime harling by Tim Meek. Derek Firth carried out specialist traditional plasterwork.
