Nominations are open for the Scottish Education Awards 2014, with entries sought from Orkney.

People are being urged to nominate the teaching professionals and local schools that go the extra mile, for recognition at the national awards ceremony which honours the hard work and innovation happening in classrooms across Scotland.

Orkney Islands Council’s director of education, leisure and housing, Leslie Manson said: “With my retirement coming up in April, there would be no greater pleasure than to see some of our hardworking staff and school volunteers recognised by an award. I’d urge anyone with pride in their school to speak to their head teacher or parent council about getting a nomination together.”

Cabinet secretary for education and lifelong learning Michael Russell, said: “The awards give us all an opportunity to recognise, share and celebrate our schools’ fantastic work.”

The awards are open to all publicly funded schools, including secondary, primary, nursery and special schools. There are also categories to recognise and reward the dedication of teachers, head-teachers and support staff across Scotland.

Do you know a local school that shines within the community or an exemplary teacher who motivates and nurtures pupils to become confident learners?

If so, this is the opportunity to ensure that deserving schools and education stars in Orkney are recognised.   Nominations close on the 21 February. For further information and to make a nomination visit www.scottisheducationawards.org.uk
