Heilendi to become an independent practice, NHS confirms
Kirkwall’s Heilendi practice is to become an independent practice from November, NHS Orkney confirmed this week.
Cathie Cowan, NHS Orkney’s chief executive, said: “NHS Orkney remains committed to investing in local services and is delighted to confirm that in working with the GPs and staff of Heilendi that the Heilendi practice will be funded and supported to become an independent practice from November.”
The practice will also be responsible for providing services to the people of Kirkwall and surrounding areas, Shapinsay, and Rousay, in conjunction with local GPs.
Mrs Cowan added: “In regard to Shapinsay, we are in the process of appointing a GP and whilst we cannot stipulate where people live it is hoped that the GP will opt to live on the island as currently happens with the GP on Rousay.
“The practice will also continue to provide a visiting service to North Ronaldsay.”
