Icy roads warning issued by police

Police in Kirkwall issued a warning about icy roads in Orkney in the early hours of this morning, after three reports of road accidents overnight.

According to police, two of these accidents took place on the Holm Road, where conditions were described as ‘sheet ice’.

Orkney Islands Council were contacted at 1am and confirmed that gritters would be deployed at 6am hours.

Although temperatures have now risen, police are reminding vehicle drivers to keep aware and drive to the conditions.
