It’s Dounby Show day!

The champion of the 2017 Dounby Show cattle section — an Aberdeen Angus Cow from Messrs Davidson, Skaill Farm, Sandwick.

Today, Thursday, will see the best of Orkney’s West Mainland out in force for Dounby Show day.

Only two shows may be left on the local show calendar, but the Dounby and County are the two biggest, mixing a fairground atmosphere with highly competitive livestock and pet contests.

At the showpark, next to Dounby village, judging at for the horses begins at 9am while cattle, sheep, poultry and goat judging starts at 9.30am.

There will also be entertainment in the showpark’s main ring from noon as well as a pets parade, a shearing competition, a highland dancing demonstration and much more.

The West Mainland Flower, Produce and Industrial Show is also taking place in the Dounby Community centre today, this year celebrating it’s 120th anniversary.
