Kirkwall shops targeted in early hours break-ins

police-scotland-logo-2The Co-op on Pickaquoy Road, and The Brig Larder, Albert Street — both in Kirkwall — were both broken into during the early hours of Wednesday, August 17.

One man has been arrested and charged in relation to the incident at Brig Larder and has been reported to the procurator fiscal.

In relation to the Co-op break-in, police are looking for a male in his 20s, around 5’4” to 5’6” tall, and wearing black tracksuit trousers, black shoes, a black tracksuit top with white sleeves, and black gloves.

Area inspector Alicen Winston said “It is disappointing to find that we have two incidents where property has been violated in Kirkwall in the space of a few hours.

“We believe that the incidents are not connected and we are following a very positive line of inquiry to trace and interview the male suspected of committing the break-in at the Co-op premises.”

Anyone with information on either incident is asked to contact police in Kirkwall on 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
