Launch event for Islander 2016
The 2016 edition of the Islander magazine, published by The Orcadian, was launched in Kirkwall today.
At a special event hosted by VisitScotland, members of the public joined magazine producers, advertisers and contributors for a first look at this year’s free publication.
The magazine, now in its 28th year, acts as a guide to Orkney and what is on offer for visitors to the islands.
Leah Seator, the magazine’s editor said: “Historically, the Islander was a newspaper, focusing on local stories of interest and visitor attractions. While this remains to be our ethos, we have completely changed the look and feel of the publication with the aim of reaching a wider audience of all ages.
Barbara Foulkes, VisitScotland’s island manager, added: “Here we are 28 years later, with a lovely, new glossy publication which sells Orkney in a completely different light. It is a showcase for the crafts, the makers, and inspirational young people in the islands.
“It is fantastic that we can all move forward and our visitors can appreciate all Orkney has to offer.”
The Islander is available locally at a number of local outlets including The Orcadian Bookshop and the Print Centre at Hatston.
The digital version can also be accessed, via www.orcadian.co.uk, from tomorrow, Tuesday.
