Changes to recycling and waste collections begin next week

Orkney Islands Council is reminding residents that changes to recycling and waste collections begin next Monday, 4 April.

There will be 15 collection areas rather than 13 as at present. Collection vehicles will follow new routes and some collection days will change.

All Mainland and linked South Isles households should have received leaflets and calendars detailing the changes along with reminder information on which items can and cannot be recycled. The leaflets are tailored to specific areas – Kirkwall, Stromness, East Mainland and West Mainland.

All road names are detailed on the leaflets, and maps have been produced for the East and West Mainland showing collection areas. Maps of the areas can also be viewed in local post offices and shops in the East and West Mainland.

It is very important that residents check their leaflet as their collection day may change.

Please have your correct bin out by 8am on your collection day, and at the usual collection point. If you do not receive your leaflets or are unsure of your area, please contact OIC Customer Services on 01856 873535. Leaflets will also be available in the usual public outlets.
