Shapinsay Primary School has received a glowing report from education inspectors, achieving a rare excellent rating for its learning experience.

The inspection identified the key strengths of the school as:

  • Confident children who showed a great pride in their learning, school and community.
  • The strong and purposeful ethos for learning
  • Invaluable support from parents and the island community
  • High quality learning experiences, including in the expressive arts and physical education.
  • The very effective leadership of the Head Teacher in supporting a strong sense of teamwork with all staff.

Dr Stephen Clackson, who is a North Isles councillor and vice-chairman of the education, lesuire and housing committee said: “Top marks to Emma and her staff!  It comes as no surprise to me that one of the key strengths identified was ‘invaluable support from parents and the island community’, because our island schools are the very heart and soul of our island communities.”

Emma Clements, headteacher at the school said: “We are delighted with the report, and especially that the teamwork of children, staff, parents and the community have been recognised as a key strength, along with the high quality learning experiences of the children.”
