Messigate scoops Showyard Championship
A six year-old Aberdeen Angus cow from Phyllis Hepburn, of Messigate, in Tankerness was named as the Showyard Champion at today’s East Mainland Show.
The animal, Burnside Elaine E211, by Logie Euro and out of Burnside Elaine D188 caught the eye of beef cattle judge, Richard Thomson earlier on in the day when it was named as the overall cattle Champion.
It fought off stiff competition from the sheep supreme — a four-crop Texel cross Charollais ewe, from James S Baillie and Co., of Sebay Farm in Tankerness — and the horse and pony winner, Bayview Tess, exhibited by J. and L. Cromarty, Roadside, Toab. Also champion at the East last year, Bayview Tess, by Threapwood Ventura and out of Linglass Suzie stood out in the section for judge Brian Hunter from Shetland.
Despite a downpour at the very close of the show day, the event has been heralded a success by Show president, James Cowe.
