Tribute to former director of harbours
The chief executive of the OIC, Alistair Buchan, has paid tribute to Captain Nigel Mills, a former director of harbours with the council.
Captain Mills was killed in a motorcycle accident near Alness on Thursday night.
Mr Buchan said: “Nigel was a dedicated, loyal and hard-working colleague who achieved much in his time as Director of Harbours in what was a particularly challenging time for the service.
“He will be sorely missed and our thoughts go out to all of his family at this tragic and very sad time.”
The accident occurred around 8.50pm on Thursday and Captain Mills’ pillion passenger was seriously injured and transferred to Raigmore Hospital, in Inverness.
Police Scotland are appealing for anyone who witnessed  the accident to contact them on 101.
