Navy officer’s charity cycle from ‘home to home’
An Orkney Royal Navy officer is due to start a gruelling land challenge tomorrow, Sunday, to raise money for Help for Heroes.
Edwin “Coops ” Cooper, a helicopter pilot and a former pupil of Stromness Academy, is planning a “home to home” cycling challenge, setting off from his current home in Falmouth to his family home in Stromness.
Lieutenant Cooper, son of Philip and Charlotte Cooper, from Stromness, will cover the 1,000-mile distance in seven days with no back-up drivers.
His goal for the challenge is to raise £2,000 for Help for Heroes — a charity that was launched in 2007 to provide direct, practical support to those wounded, sick or injured in the line of duty since 9/11.
Edwin is due to arrive in Stromness next Saturday, March 31.
