New Hatston dump to take shape from 2023
A Kirkwall councillor is keen to ensure that a stink is not kicked up by a proposed new £17.2million recycling and waste plant in the town.
Deputy OIC leader, Councillor Leslie Manson and his colleagues on the policy and resources committee, on Monday, approved a programme which would see work starting on the new Orkney-wide complex in April 2023.
Councillor Manson sought assurances that residents will not be subject to foul odours.
The plant, earmarked for the former abattoir site at Hatston, would feature a new facility to compost food and garden waste.
