New pier for Stromness
OIC Councillors have given their backing for the development of a new pier at Copland’s Dock in Stromness.
The Planning and Protective Services Committee of the OIC have approved the application for the new pier and laydown area which is aimed primarily at the renewables sector. This is the final part of the council’s three port strategy which also includes Lyness and Hatston.
Despite councillors backing the project, it was stated that the Scottish Government will have to be notified of the application due to an objection from statutory consultee Scottish Natural Heritage, who took issue with the planned access road serving the new pier. Scottish Ministers will then decide whether or not to call in the application.
