Norwegian choir’s Orkney debut
Norwegian choir Kammerskoret are in Orkney this weekend on their first visit to the county.
The 13-member choir hails from Kvinnherad in the west of Norway, at the very beginning of the Hardangerfjord. It was founded in 1980 by Eli Haugen, who is still the choir leader.
Kammerskoret will be performing in a joint concert with the Mayfield Singers this evening, Saturday, at 7.30pm in Stromness Town Hall.
On Sunday, Kammerskoret will visit Hoy to join with the Stromabank Pub Choir for an afternoon concert in the Hoy Kirk at 2.30pm.
A spokesman for the choir said: “The trip to Orkney is the third time our choir has been abroad. For most of the members, Orkney will be a new experience.
“Hopefully, it will be a memory of a lifetime — we’re all looking forward to singing together with our cousins across the sea.”
