Orkney FC hoping to put poor away results run to an end

Halkirk won on penalties after a 1-1 draw in the North of Scotland Cup in July, the last meeting between the two sides. Thorfinn Stout (above) was on the scoresheet that day and will be hopeful of a repeat on Saturday.

Orkney FC are due to return to action this weekend as they travel away to league leaders, Halkirk United, with the islanders hoping to put their travelling blues behind them. All three league defeats the men in red have suffered this season in the North Caledonian League have occurred on the road, losing 4-1 to Golspie Sutherland, 3-1 to Thurso and 2-0 to Invergordon in their most recent league outing.

However, Orkney — sitting third in the league — will be fully aware of the task that faces them with the hosts leading the way at the top of the table on 15 points — six ahead of Orkney. Halkirk’s last league outing — a 3-1 defeat at the hands of defending champions Golspie Sutherland — ended their 100 per cent record this season but they will be hopeful of getting their title aspirations back on track on Saturday.

Orkney do not have a favourable record against Halkirk, with the hosts unbeaten against their island counterparts. All Orkney have to show for their five league and cup games is a 1-1 draw in the league, with the four other games going the way of Halkirk.

The match is scheduled to start at 2pm on Saturday at Morrison Park in Halkirk.
