Orkney’s museums are set to enjoy a higher national profile, following the appointment of the OIC’s museums manager to a UK-wide accreditation body.

Clare Gee will sit on the Museums Accreditation Committee, a national advisory panel, run through Arts Council England.

The non-renumerated post involves playing an active role in helping to shape the national accreditation scheme, and assessing applications for accreditation.

Chairwoman of the council’s education, leisure and housing committee, Councillor Janice Annal, said: “I congratulate Clare on making it through the rigorous recruitment process. Clare and her team are highly capable and well respected in their fields, and I am confident Clare will use her seat on this committee to the benefit of Orkney, and to remote and rural communities like ours.”

She added: “The exchange of ideas, between national perspectives and remote communities will be invaluable for Orkney.
