Stromness Academy pupils and staff make their way to the war memorial to lay wreaths of remembrance.

Pupils at Stromness Academy and Kirkwall Grammar School have been involved in a number of events today to mark Armistice Day.

Third-year pupils and staff from Stromness Academy paraded from the school to lay a wreath at the town’s war memorial, led by the Stromness Royal Legion Pipe Band.

Kirkwall Grammar School took part in a two-minute silence at 11am, during which a member of the school orchestra will play The Last Post. KGS pupils will also be looking at the symbolism and use of both red and white poppies during their Tutor Time Activities, creating memorial wreaths for the Orkney men lost during World War One and creating a large art installation to mark the anniversary combining efforts from the Art & Design, Drama and Social Subjects departments.
