Police warning to motorists, as wintry conditions arrive in the county
As the wintry conditions arrived in Orkney this weekend, and more forecast, police are reminding motorists to take extra care on the roads.
There was two weather-related accidents over the weekend, the first saw a female driver and her vehicle end up on the embankment at the Stenness Loch around 7am on Saturday. She was uninjured.
Meanwhile, another female driver escaped injury when her vehicle skidded off the road near Binscarth, outside Finstown, on Sunday.
Sergeant Jim Munro said: “Your speed should be dictated by the weather conditions at the time. If they are adverse, due to slush, snow or wind, then reduce your speed and have the appropriate tyres.”
