Polls open for OIC election
Polling stations have opened this Thursday morning, as in-person voting begins in the Orkney Islands Council (OIC) election.
Polls will be open until 10pm. Anyone who is aged 16 or over and is electorally registered in Orkney can cast their vote.
This Friday, the votes will be counted and Orkney will find out who will fill the 21 seats in the OIC chamber for the next five years.
Scottish local authority elections use a single transferable vote (STV) system. This means you put a number one in the box next to the first preference candidate in your word. You can then continue to rank your candidates until until you run out of people you would like to see elected.
