Restoration specialist from Rome to work on Italian Chapel
A restoration specialist from Rome, who has carried out work on historic religious buildings, including the Sistine Chapel, is set to travel to Orkney next month to carry out restoration work on the Italian Chapel.
Artist Antonella Papa, who specialises in restoration work in cathedrals and churches, is coming over for the month of April and will spend her time carrying out restoration of the paintwork in the chapel.
Meanwhile, giving an update on security measures at the iconic Orkney building, John Muir of the preservation committee which looks after the chapel, says that CCTV cameras have now been installed to monitor the building.
The move to install such measures came after the theft of three handcrafted wooden plaques from inside the building last year, an act which resulted in public outcry.
