Sanday Soulka season begins

The first Sanday Soulka of the season is launched today, with a Folk Festival Ceilidh, hosted by the Sanday Community Association.

Then tomorrow, Saturday, a special timetable and map will lead participants to different arts and craft studios and galleries, and the Tangarth model railway.

In the afternoon the Guides, Brownies and Rainbows will hold a sale in the community hall, while a guided trip to and up Start Point Lighthouse will take place. The evening’s highlight will be a candlelit concert, featuring Catherine and Tim Shimwell.

On Sunday morning, more artists, craftsmen and women will open their doors, and the island’s photo-archive and oral history project will be on show at Heilsa Fjold.

The Varagen has been chartered for a special cruise, to and around Stronsay and Auskerry, with commentary from Stronsay ornithologist, John Holloway, and Auskerry resident Teresa Probert.
