Deadline for electricity link comments on Friday
Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) is urging folk to respond to its consultation on an electricity link between Orkney and the Scottish mainland. The consultation closes on March 31.
The proposed link is needed to accommodate tidal and onshore wind energy projects in the county, as well as  additional capacity on the local electricity network.
SSEN plans to install a cable connection between Caithness and a new substation – either in Stenness or Orphir – and another near Finstown.
Consultation events have been held across the county and, according to SSEN, the views of Orkney folk will help inform the next steps and future development of the project.
