Stromness triumph at drama festival
Stromness Drama Club’s production of Jock and Blind Mary, by George Mackay, Brown has won the
Challenge Cup for First Place overall at the Orkney District’s Scottish Community Drama Association, preliminary festival.
Winning the Firth Trophy for Second Place, was Kirkwall Arts Club B team with their production of Blood on Canvas, by Richard James.
Both plays will return to the stage tomorrow (Saturday February, 26) for further a performance.
It was a night of success for Stromness, as Stromness Drama group also took home the Ernie Donaldson Cup for highest marks in direction, won by Graham Garson, and the Jean Campbell Memorial Trophy for a play depicting Scottish life and character.
Stromness Academy Players won the Orcadian Youth Trophy, for their production entitled All I Really Need To Know I Learned From Being A Zombie.
The two Stromness teams will now take their plays and represent the Orkney District at further competitions on the Scottish Mainland.
Third place, winning the A.C. Hunter Cup, were Kirkwall Arts Club A team with their production of Robert Scott’s comedy All by My Self.
The St Magnus Parish Trophy went to Birsay Drama Group’s hilarious Cinderella, by Robert Green.
Birsay Drama Group also picked up the Corsie Cup for play depicting Best Moment of Theatre, for the Good Fairy, played by Aimee Symonds.
