The Orcadian launches new website and best-ever digital prices to mark 25 years online
With a fresh new website, brand new advertising opportunities, and exciting digital subscription offers, 25 years of bringing Orkney news online is being celebrated by The Orcadian.
To honour this milestone, The Orcadian has launched a brand new website in a major shake-up of the newspaper’s online offering, and the first such revamp since 2018.

As part of this enhanced offering, The Orcadian is now launching our best ever digital prices, meaning you can now read online for less.
The Orcadian has also teamed up with Highland Park where every new digital subscriber to our three and twelve month packages in December will be automatically entered into a competition to win the distillery’s latest 16-year-old single malt.
Leah Seator, managing director of Orkney Media Group, said: “We are thrilled to see these long planned changes taking shape today, and would encourage everybody to take a look, and consider subscribing to our digital edition.
“All December package subscribers will be entered into our Highland Park competition, marking a milestone anniversary for digital media in Orkney with a celebratory bonus.
“We have also rolled out our first company newsletter, which you can subscribe to via the website as of today, and within that you will receive our best monthly deals and promotions.
“I want to thank the entire team across all divisions of Orkney Media Group for their hard work to bring this idea to life. It began with our much-missed former managing director, Craig MacInnes, who was passionate about digital advances at The Orcadian.
“We hope that people will welcome our best online subscription offers to date, and enjoy keeping up with the news via our revamped website!”
It was back in 2000 when The Orcadian burst onto the early cyber scene.
Under the guidance of news editor Robert Leslie and website editor Sigurd Towrie, The Orcadian became the go-to website for Orcadians all over the world to find out news at the touch of a button.
A quarter of a century later, technology and the world wide web has evolved, with the advent of social media the most significant development.
However, The Orcadian online still remains as popular as ever, and the development of a new site marks a significant moment for the company, designed to enhance and complement our offering to the public and advertisers.
A range of new features include enhanced user-friendly news article layout, streamlined weather forecasts, find out what bin week it is, the latest jobs, tide times and death notices.
There also a range of new features and new content in the works which will come online in due course.
The man behind the new website, Craig Miller, heads up the company’s website design, hosting and trouble-shooting division, Orknet.
As part of ‘Digital December’, there is also a brand new monthly newsletter, where you’ll be able to hear about our best offers and company news. Subscribers can sign up here: https://orcadian.co.uk/newsletter/
This December is the perfect time to subscribe and support the future of Orkney’s award-winning newspaper.
Now, it has never been easier to enjoy your weekly The Orcadian at the touch of a button where you can zoom, skip, search and even read back editions in high-res digital quality.
Subscribers will now be able to read The Orcadian online for the best ever prices, with three new packages.
A twelve-month subscription package will save you 20 per cent on the printed edition, meaning your newspaper will cost you the equivalent of £1.75 a week.
A three-month package saves you 15 per cent on the physical edition for 13 newspapers, meaning it is £1.85 a week.
And for just a single edition, a ten per cent saving means that the newspaper is £1.99 a week.
Every new digital subscriber to the three and twelve month options will also be in with a chance at winning a bottle of Highland Park’s Between You and I, worth £145.
The winner will be announced in The Orcadian on January 8.
