‘Welcome to Kirkwall… no wait, Stromness!’ — OIC to rectify Hallowe’en sign swap
Drivers between Kirkwall and Stromness have been getting mixed signals, this Monday, after an overnight Hallowe’en prank.
Orkney Islands Council has said it is now in the process of returning two road signs marked “welcome to Kirkwall” and a “welcome to Stromness” to their correct positions, after they were swapped overnight.
While any unfamiliar visitors to Orkney might have found themselves a bit confused today, the swapping of the signs has proved a viral hit on the county’s social media community.
Asked about the incident, this afternoon, an OIC spokeswoman said: “We would like to thank members of the public for alerting us to the switching of Kirkwall and Stromness ‘welcome signs’ which occurred on Hallowe’en.
“They are being returned to their rightful positions now.”
