ActiveLife scheme reaches 5,000 users
The Orkney-wide ActiveLife membership scheme has now reached over 5,000 active users.
The scheme was launched last January, with the aim of encouraging Orcadians to become more active, by offering access to 12 sports and leisure facilities across the county, as well as half price lessons in the Learn to Swim programme for children.
The success of the scheme to date has allowed some positive changes to be made at sports facilities in the county, such as extended gym opening hours at Picky and Stromness, earlier lane swimming at Picky and the running of a range of additional group exercises.
Picky Trust Chair, Stephen Kemp, commented: “Everyone involved with the ActiveLife scheme is thrilled at how it has been received so far, with 23 per cent of the local population being on board.
“The uptake has meant we are in a position to make some great changes to programming and facilities that will only further enhance the membership.
“We are seeing a lot more people in the facilities and it has made an active lifestyle far more affordable for families, in fact, over 70 per cent of people involved in the scheme are part of a family membership.
“We will be having a six-month review of the scheme next month to discuss any concerns that have been flagged up so far to ensure we are staying ahead of the game on the whole when it comes to demand and delivery.”
