Draft conservation areas plan available for feedback

A new management plan for Orkney’s four urban conservation areas is available in draft form for public feedback.

The draft plan is the first produced by Orkney Islands Council that covers all four of the county’s urban conservation areas, in Kirkwall, Stromness, St Margaret’s Hope and Balfour village.

The document will be revised in response to public feedback and, once approved by OIC councillors, will be a key consideration when planning applications in the conservation areas are determined.

OIC say comments are invited on the document during the eight-week consultation period, which runs until August 29.

The draft urban conservation areas management plan is available:

  • on the OIC website at http://www.orkney.gov.uk/Service-Directory/C/urban-conservation-areas-management-plan.htm.
  • in paper form at OIC customer services and the libraries in both Kirkwall and Stromness
  • by request upon contacting the council’s development and marine planning team on 01856 873535 or by sending an email to devplan@orkney.gov.uk

Additionally, team members are also available at OIC customer services in Kirkwall on Fridays to discuss the document.
