Emergency crews assist Scapa Flow casualty

Emergency services have attended an incident in Stromness involving a salmon farming vessel, this afternoon.

HM Coastguard was called out to an incident between Hoy and Stromness at at 2.22pm.

A search and rescue helicopter was dispatched, along with Stromness RNLI’s lifeboat and Stromness Coastguard rescue team. Police were also in attendance on shore in Stromness.

A Stromness RNLI spokesman said the lifeboat, Violet Dorothy and Kathleen, was launched this afternoon to assist with a casualty on board a vessel in Scapa Flow.

He added: “Two lifeboat crew members were transferred to the vessel to assist.

“The vessel was then escorted back to Stromness Harbour where the casualty was transferred to the medical responders on shore.”
