Flood alert issued for Orkney
A flood alert has been issued for Orkney by the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency.
The organisation says that there is an increased risk of coastal flooding over the next few days due to heavy rain accompanied by strong winds and a moderate storm surge, which coincides with high tides, particularly on Friday and Saturday.
SEPA say that large waves and spray overtopping are likely in areas exposed to the strong onshore winds, with flooding to low lying areas possible.
High tides at Kirkwall are at 10:40am and 11:14pm on Friday, then 11:24am and approximately 11:59pm on Saturday.
SEPA say they will continue to monitor the situation and further updates will appear on their website if the situation changes.
