Full-scale emergency at Kirkwall Airport
Police, Fire Service and local coastguard units were called to a full-scale emergency at Kirkwall Airport this morning as a flight from Aberdeen to Shetland experienced de-icing problems as it approached Sumburgh.
According to police, the plane, with 25 passengers on board, turned back to Kirkwall Airport which has a longer runway. It landed safely shortly before 9am.
A spokeswoman from Shetland Coastguard said teams from Kirkwall and Stromness Coastguard attended at the airport and the Kirkwall Lifeboat was also put on standby.
