Further set-back for new swimming pool
The handover of the new swimming pool at the Pickaquoy Centre, in Kirkwall, has been delayed by a further week.
Alan Moar, project director for Orkney Islands Council’s Schools Investment Programme, has said that this most recent delay is due to “a number of final touches” being put in place and until final certification can be completed.
Orkney Islands Council had said in March that the new pool would be handed over on Friday, May 31. The opening of the pool was originally scheduled for summer 2012 but has been continually delayed since that time.
Orkney Islands Council also say the existing swimming pool, at Kirkwall Grammar School, will remain open in the meantime with any changes to the service appearing on the OIC website under ‘What’s New?’
Once the handover takes place, the existing pool at the KGS will close for a ten-day period to allow for the transition to the new facility.
During those ten days there will be no pool facilities in Kirkwall, until the new pool opens for use.
