Liam Muir, of Upper Onston, Stenness, claimed his second supreme cattle championship in the space of three days at the County Show today.

It was the same animal that had been victorious at the Dounby Show — Amelie — which again triumphed.

Amelie is a home-bred 20-month-old Limousin cross-heifer, by the French AI bull Tehix and out of a British Blue cross cow. Mr Muir said he was “delighted” to have scooped the top prize.

In the sheep lines, the supreme went to James and Elsie Wishart, Newbigging, Harray, with their Cheviot leader. It was the first time since 1993 that they had claimed the prize and only the second time in total. Topping the section for them was a gimmer, by Bardnaclavan Elite. It was the third year in succession that they had lifted the Cheviot Championship.

Taking the honours in the horse section was J. & L. Cromarty, Bayview Stud, Roadside, Toab, with their home-bred five-year-old Shetland pony mare Bayview Tess. The reserve title went to J. W. Taylor & Sons, Aikers, South Ronaldsay, with their five-month-old Clydesdale foal Mary Jane.

In the poultry section there was double success for Bryan Taylor, of Kirkwall, whose white call duck and drake took the champion and reserve titles.
