KGS pupils ask parliamentarian to pass on a message

Pupils from Kirkwall Grammar School Pupils are to ask Alistair Carmichael MP and Liam McArthur MSP  to pass on an important message to the Prime Minister  today.

S3 pupils involved in the Send My Friend to School campaign will walk down to the constituency office to hand over messages — which highlight the inspirational work of teachers and aim to remind world leaders to ensure enough teachers are recruited and trained so that every child can get an education — to the local politicians.

Theo Ogbhemhe, teacher of religious, moral and philosophical studies,  at KGS explained: “Pupils and staff at KGS are asking politicians to work together to impact on world leaders.

“As a first step we are looking to influence our local MP and MSP by submitting to them ‘cut-outs’ of our ideal teachers and messages aimed at hopefully persuading them to take action on this issue.

“World leaders in the year 2000 made a promise on basic primary education for every child by 2015 but with just 2 years to go, there are still around 60 million children not able to access primary education.

“We are also collecting books and educational materials which we will send to primary schools in Uganda, Nigeria and Ghana to help children access primary education.

“The monies raised from the recent ‘Making Noise for Poverty’ event will also be channelled to this cause.”
