MSP tours ‘green home’ in Rendall
Orkney MSP Liam McArthur received a personal tour of one of Scotland’s green homes this afternoon, Friday.
The McAllister family, from Rendall, showed Mr McArthur how adopting a range of renewables technology, including a wind turbine and air source heat pump, has made their house a greener place to live.
One of 660 members, and 34 homes in the Orkney Islands, the McAllister family is part of the ever-growing Green Homes Network which is funded by the Scottish Government and managed by the Energy Saving Trust.
Mr  McArthur MSP said: “This is a perfect example of a household that is working hard to improve its overall energy efficiency and cut its energy bills and it is great to see the benefits of renewables technology first hand.
“We need more homeowners in Scotland to take a lead from the McAllister family and think about installing renewables technology in their homes as it all plays an important role in helping us to meet our climate change targets.
“I would urge families, especially here in Orkney, to contact the local Energy Saving Scotland advice centre on 0800 512 012 to access advice and information or log on to the website www.greenhomesnetwork.org.uk.”
