OIC names new executive director
Orkney Islands Council has appointed a new executive director to its education, leisure and housing service.
Wilfred Weir will join the organisation from Aberdeenshire Council, where he is currently Head of Policy and Resources in their education service. He will take over from Leslie Manson, who retires on May 9.
Mr Weir, commenting on his appointment, said: “I am delighted to accept this appointment. In coming back to the far north of Scotland, I feel in some way that I am returning to my roots, as my family come from the Caithness area.
“I have been extremely impressed by the services and facilities that Orkney Islands Council provides and I’m looking forward to working closely with the children, learners, tenants and housing partners in Orkney, as well as my future colleagues at the Council.
Mr Weir joined Aberdeenshire Council’s central education service in 2001. Prior to this he was an assistant head teacher and a principal teacher of english.
Mr Weir will take up his post in the autumn.
