Orkney take advantage of Irvine indiscipline in low quality encounter
While it wasn’t the most aesthetically pleasing of victories, Orkney RFC did sign of their 2015/16 home campaign with a 10-0 victory over Irvine in a damp and dour encounter in Kirkwall.
It wasn’t until the 65th minute when James Linklater slotted a penalty attempt that the deadlock was broken in a match that gave the supporters little to cheer about.
The near constant rain and blustery wind certainly weren’t conducive to a high quality display of rugby, but the away side weren’t helped by their own indiscipline which saw four yellow cards shown, and midway through the second half, a red.
With the visitors down to 13 men at the time, Orkney took full advantage as Marcus Guthrie finished off a flowing move, and Linklater converted to put the game beyond the away side.
