Recycling pickup disruption
Orkney Islands Council is advising people in waste collection areas One and Six that the recycling collection today, Monday, is disrupted due to intermittent high winds.
Areas affected by the recycling disruption are East Holm, Deerness, Tankerness and the Sunnybank and Hatston areas.
These residents are advised to put their recyclables out at the next scheduled collection in two weeks on May 9.
Head of OIC’s roads and environmental Services, Darren Richardson, said: “While we have attempted some recycling collections today, it has proved to be unworkable in areas exposed to high winds as green bin contents are tipped into the wagon.
“If people find that they have too much recycling to store within their wheelie bins by the time their next collection comes around, they can put the excess out on May 9, for example in a cardboard box or clear plastic bags – as long as it can be easily identified by our staff as recyclables.”
