Road Policing team record 34 offences during Orkney visit
Police Scotland’s Divisional Road Policing Team detected 34 offences during their five-day visit to Orkney last week.
The offences included 9 insurance offences, 5 speeding offences, 1 mobile phone offence and 3 licensing offences. A further 33 warnings were also issued and a total of 11 vehicles were removed from the road due to mechanical defects. Â
Inspector Alicen Winston said: “Police Scotland is committed to developing road safety by improving driver behaviours and enforcement of road traffic legislation in support of the Scottish Government Road Safety Framework 2020.
“By robustly deterring offenders and detecting road traffic offences in Orkney in line with Police Scotland Strategic Assessment for 2016/17 we will ensure that the public here are safer on the roads.”
The Divisional Road Policing Team are to continue to visit Orkney in future, supporting local police in keeping people safe on the roads.
