Sandwick sent spinning out in last-minute Parish Cup defeat

Rendall, Westray, and Holm will join Stromness in The Orcadian Parish Cup semi-finals.

23-time winners Sandwick crashed out to a last-minute Steve Hellewell goal in Rendall, while Westray and Holm progressed at the expense of St Andrews and Sanday.

The day’s drama reached fever pitch in the last match of the weekend as striker Steve Hellewell struck in the last-minute of normal time as Rendall beat Sandwick 3-2.

The match was delicately poised after a 2-2 draw in the first leg, but Steven Pottinger swung the tie in the visitors favour when he struck early in the first half. Chris Hellewell and Colin Flett hit back to put the home side in the driving seat, but a David Hourie header looked to have forced extra-time until Hellewell had the final say with a composed finish.

Meanwhile in the North Isles, goals from Johnny Drever and Liam Drever ensured Westray booked their spot in the next round after a 2-2 draw with St Andrews, progressing 5-4 on aggregate. Connan Rendall and Logan Peace struck for the East Mainland side.

Over in Sanday, Holm produced a clinical display, beating the home side 7-2 (10-4 on aggregate) to seal their spot in their sixth consecutive semi-final.

The semi-final draw is set to be made in the next few days, with the first legs scheduled to be played next weekend.
