St Ola fire Parish Cup warning shot in big Sandwick win
St Ola joined Stromness and St Andrews in the last four of The Orcadian Parish Cup, routing Sandwick 0-8 in Dounby.
Holding a slender 1-0 lead after the first-leg, St Ola — boasting an impressive array of talents — were clinical, slotting eight goals past the hapless home side.
An own goal within ten seconds of the start gave the 14-time winners the perfect start and they had ended the contest by half-time through goals from Graham Shearer and a double from Steven Tulloch.
A second from Shearer made it 0-5 after the break, before Tulloch sealed his hat-trick, curling an effort into the top corner. Jerry McBeth then grabbed a double before the end as St Ola fired an ominous warning to their title rivals.
Meanwhile, Kirkwall Thorfinn’s Highland Amateur Cup dream ended on Saturday, as Lochinver battled to a 2-1 victory at the Bignold.
The visitors went two up against a lacklustre home side, before being pegged back by Graham Shearer. Damien Sutherland saw a penalty saved before strong appeals for a second spotkick was dismissed as the two-time champions crashed out of the competition.
