Orkney Science Festival gets under way

The 26th Orkney International Science Festival kicked off this afternoon, with a North Isles themed lunch at Kirkwall Town Hall.

At noon, the festival was officially opened by television scientist Marty Jopsen of the BBC’s One Show, introduced by festival director Howie Firth.

Heather and Gavin Woodbridge of the North Ronaldsay bird observatory and award-winning Orkney author, Amy Liptrott were also in attendance.

With a packed schedule of events, the Science Festival continues until next Wednesday.
