Alway expecting tough test away to Halkirk
Orkney FC return to action this Saturday, travelling across the Pentland Firth to take on Halkirk United, in their first match of the new year.
Despite a 2-1 home defeat to Tain St. Duthus ending 2016 on a disappointing note for Orkney, the islanders are currently second in the North Caledonian League. They trail leaders Invergordon by nine points but have two games in hand.
After a disappointing league title defence, Halkirk are fifth, but Orkney FC manager Charlie Alway, speaking earlier this week to The Orcadian, was expecting to face a “fired up” Halkirk side, eager to improve in the second half of the season.
The match is scheduled to kick-off at 2.30pm.
Mr Alway said: “I think we’ve had some cracking games against Halkirk over the years, and I think it is a game which should excite everybody really — 2.30pm Saturday kick-off, over there, good pitch, got the lights when we need them, everything’s there; we’ve got a good squad, good availability, let’s go and have a really good game, get a performance we deserve and see which way the result goes.”
