Anti-social crime down by 44 per cent
Police in Orkney have reported that the number of anti-social crimes committed in Orkney has fallen by 44 per cent for the period April 1 to June 1 when compared to the same period last year.
Some examples of anti-social behaviour crimes are breaches of the peace, abusive behaviour, disorderly conduct on licensed premises, nuisance calls and urinating in public.
Acting Inspector for police in Orkney Derek Robb said: “With Orkney being a small place we can see statistical changes of 5 or 6 per cent fairly easily however 44 per cent is a significant change. I would like to think the work we’ve been doing in the past few months is responsible for this recent change. We don’t have a huge amount of resources up here but we do what we can to make the Orkney a nice place to live or visit. It’s also important to highlight the linked-in work we’ve been doing with our colleagues at Orkney Islands Council which has been driving forward all the work that goes into making Orkney as safe a place as possible.”
