Awards recognise the best of Orkney food and drink

The 2016 Orkney Food and Drink Awards took place in Stromness last night, Saturday.

Thirty-six local food and drink business were in the running for 16 different awards, covering everything from the best breakfasts, lunches and evening meals, to the finest bakery, drink, meat, fish and dairy products. Prizes for the top marketing initiative and new product are up for grabs too, with a special continued excellence award also being presented.

The biennial awards — re-launched in 2014 — have been organised by Orkney Food and Drink, with sponsorship from NorthLink Ferries and Highland Park Distillery.

The 2016 winners are:

  • Best Restaurant Evening Meal: Foveran Restaurant
  • Best Hotel/Bar Evening Meal: Kirkwall Hotel
  • Best Lunch or High Tea: Willows Coffee Shop – Wellpark Garden Centre
  • Best Breakfast: Eastward Guest House
  • Best School Dinner: Westray Junior High School
  • Best Local Food Retailer: The Brig Larder
  • Best Marketing Initiative: The Brig Larder
  • Best New Product: Island Smokery – Sweet Chilli Smoked Cheese
  • Best Meat-Based Supplier/Producer: Craigie Butchers
  • Best Fish-Based Supplier/Producer: Pierowall Fish Ltd
  • Best Dairy-Based Supplier/Producer: Orkney Creamery
  • Best Bakery-Based Supplier/Producer: Rendall’s Bakery
  • Best Drink-Based Supplier/Producer: Swannay Brewery
  • Best use of OFD Products: Foveran Restaurant
  • Outstanding Customer Service: The Brig Larder
  • Special Prize for Continued Excellence: W. F. M. Brown
