Call for voters in Orkney to register in time for June election
Ahead of poll cards for June’s General Election being sent out next week, the Electoral Registration Office is urging the people of Orkney to make sure that they are registered to vote.
For those have recently moved address, or are aware that they are not currently registered, it is quick and easy to register via www.gov.uk/register-to-vote — but the deadline is May 22.
Due to the short lead-in to the June 8, election, those wanting to apply for postal and proxy votes should get in touch with the registration office as soon as possible.
The last date to apply for a postal vote is 5pm on Tuesday, May 23, while proxy vote applications can be made up until 5pm on Wednesday, May 31.
The minimum voting age for the General Election is still 18.
