Christmas tractor runs gather massive support

With festive events being called off due to the pandemic, Orkney’s farming community are set to bring a bit of Christmas cheer to the county with not one but two tractor runs.

The Kirkwall event, organised by Graham Nicholson and Steven Sinclair, is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, December 29, and has already attracted huge interest on social media.

While the route is subject to change, an initial plan is to depart from the Orkney Auction Mart before setting off throughout Kirkwall.

To help with decorating the vehicles, both Orkney Television Enterprise, William Shearers, and Wellpark Garden Centre have offered discounts on lighting.

A fundraiser is also planned which is set to benefit a number of local charities.

The farming festive cheer is also set to descend in Hoy this Friday. The run is set to start at 6.30pm, leaving Hoy and passing through Lyness, coming back along the bottom of the village around 7.45pm.
