Contrasting fortunes for island’s rugby sides
There was contrasting fortunes for Orkney’s rugby sides yesterday, with the men’s First XV falling to defeat away to Gordonians and the county’s women side progressing in the Sarah Beaney Cup.
Despite taking the lead through a penalty try, Orkney’s men went in at the break in Aberdeen 21-13 down against newly promoted Gordonians, with captain Graham Poke also on the scoresheet with two penalties.
The home side extended their lead in the second period, completing a 63-13 win.
Meanwhile, in Inverurie, Orkney’s women progressed in the Sarah Beaney Cup, beating both Inverness Craig Dunain and Banff in a north qualifier double-header.
The side now progress to the cup proper.
